DESCRIPTION: GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep is a balanced formula of phosphoric acid, wetting agent and extenders. It causes rust (iron oxide) to chemically change to iron phosphate, which turns the metal black. A coat of paint then attaches itself so closely to the metal that moisture and oxygen cannot attack the surface and results in a much longer lasting paint job. GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep spreads easily and covers a larger area than paint because it is as thin as water. It is equally effective for both exterior and interior work. Rust inhibitors are recommended by paint manufacturers. GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep meets USDA 1996 guidelines for use in federally inspected meat and poultry plants. GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep meets current NSF requirements with Registration # 122378, Code R2.

GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep stops costly rust and corrosion. GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep primes metal. It is not a paint. Tight rust need not be removed. However, the surface must be dry and free of scaling paint or loose rust. Remove any grease with a water base degreaser. When removing heavy rust, grind off all the rust possible without removing any good metal. Stop grinding when a little bright metal begins to show through. GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep seals the pores of sandblasted metal. To protect treated metal, either use a nonporous primer or spray any color coat as a primer. Oil base primer should be used with water base paints. Use trial sample before using under epoxy or latex-base paint.

APPLICATION: IT’S AS SIMPLE AS 1,2,3:
1. Scrape loose paint, rust scale, dirt and any other accumulation with a wire brush. This step is not necessary on nonferrous, aluminum or galvanized surfaces. GEM RUST KILLER and Metal Prep is also an aid in cleaning metal to be brazed or soldered and prepares rusted metal for body fillers. De-rust with an acid bath. Dip the parts in the acid bath. Tiny bubbles will indicate the acid reaction and appear to “boil” around the corroded metal. Keep a close eye on thin steel parts that can actually be eaten away. Mild rust vanishes in 10 to 20 minutes when exposed to fresh acid. Heavier rust takes longer, even to being soaked over night. Avoid contact with compositions, leather, fabric, springs, or gun bluing.
2. Cover surface with GEM RUST KILLER and Metal Prep directly from the container using plastic or stainless sprayer, nylon brush, sponge or cloth. To get a smooth surface, wipe dissolved residue with a clean cloth or ScotchBrite pad moistened with GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep. Do no allow GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep to reach adjacent areas such as painted surfaces, concrete, masonry and stonework. Flush immediately with water, if splashing occurs.
3. Allow to dry overnight. Two coats of GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep may be necessary where rust is extremely heavy in order to thoroughly penetrate and blacken the surface to be painted. A cured surface which is rinsed or exposed to rain often turns a light grey color. This does not affect the quality of GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep as a sub-primer. Brush away loose powder before painting. One gallon covers approximately 600 square feet. CHROME: Apply a thin coat of GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep. When rust begins to dissolve, wipe the surface clean with a cloth to remove all foreign matter. Apply an additional thin coat and allow it to dry thoroughly before waxing.

CAUTION: The manufacturer assumes no liability for damage to finished surfaces. Dulling or peeling may occur in some finishes. Since paint composition and quality vary greatly, a safety check should be made by testing GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep on a very small area. On guns, use GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep only before re-bluing. For best results, use GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep at temperatures no lower than 36 degrees F. Excessive dew and humidity may prolong drying time and cause a powdery buildup during the curing process. Clean brushes and flush spray equipment with water after using. GEM RUST KILLER & Metal Prep safely dissolves bleeding rust from porcelain, tile, marble, fiberglass, etc. Pour a small amount on a cloth and rub well over surface. Rinse with clear water. (Test a small area because dulling or
peeling may occur in some finishes). PRECAUTIONS: Do not apply in hot sunlight or allow to streak or puddle. Never storeGEM RUST KILLER in a metal container.
