GEM RUST KILLER & METAL PREP
is a balanced formula of phosphoric acid, wetting agents and extenders. It chemically
changes iron oxide (rust) to iron phosphate, forming a tough undercoating which inhibits
re-rusting. Paint can then adhere so closely to the metal preventing moisture and oxygen
from attacking the surface, thus resulting in a much longer enduring paint job. It is a
rust-inhibiting coating, NOT A PAINT. Surfaces should
be top coated after treatment. Even without painting, metal cured with
GEM RUST KILLER & METAL PREP and kept indoors
is protected from further rust for a period of several months. This reduces the urgency
for immediately painting the metal. A cured surface which is rinsed or exposed to rain
often turns a light gray color, excessive dew and humidity may prolong drying time and
produce a powdery build-up.
PREPARATION: You can use chemical paint strippers,
a sander, or grinder to remove the paint. Sand blasting and bead blasting may also be used.

APPLICATION:
Cover surface with GEM RUST KILLER & METAL PREP directly
from the container using a plastic sprayer and a scuff pad. Always use new clean pads to avoid
contamination. Apply GEM RUST KILLER & METAL PREP directly
onto the scuff pad. Do not spray product onto the panel itself
because it may mist onto other previously cleaned areas and contaminate them. Spray it into the
scuff pad while moving the nozzle against the pad slowly. Scuff with moistened pad one square foot
area, in circular movements until surface appears clean of rust. For best results, use at
temperatures between 65 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperature is hotter the product will
dry much quicker and you may have to reapply it during the process. It is best in hotter regions
to do this in the cooler hours of the morning. Gem Rust Killer & Metal Prep does not need to be
rinsed.
If you follow these directions correctly you do not have to wear a mask because none of the
acid is being sprayed into the air. It remains a liquid so it shouldn't cause any breathing
problems, however for your own safety you may want to wear a mask, goggles and gloves.
DE-RUST WITH ACID BATH: Use plastic container only.
Fill container with full-strength GEM RUST KILLER & METAL PREP.
Parts must be free of any oil or dirt. Submerge parts in bath. A chemical reaction occurs resulting
in a "boiling" appearance. Keep a close eye on thin steel parts that can be eaten away. Mild rust
vanishes in 10 to 20 minutes when exposed to fresh acid. Heavier rust takes longer, even to being
soaked overnight.
